Tribute to Hugh O'Malley RIP

The parade committee wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family of Hugh O’Malley, our former secretary who died on 22 March.

Hugh was secretary from 2008 - 2019 and was involved in organising the parade from 2007.

Hugh gave his talents and commitment to the parade for 12 years and was a greatly respected member of the organising team. Through his meticulous work and enthusiasm he created a legacy which continues to support how the parade is organised.

As secretary, Hugh was the cornerstone of the committee. His attention to detail in preparations for meetings was legendary, and he would arrive with minutes printed for everyone with detailed notations of all correspondence and plans. He was the link between the parade committee and many of the organisations who support and take part in the parade, and of course he would be amongst the first on the square on parade day.

Hugh's many acts of kindness will be long remembered. He humbly took time to support others in those small things that make all the difference - like giving lifts to the Irish Centre to make sure people could get to meetings, and regular phone calls with words of encouragement. He was inclusive, considerate and grateful for everyone’s contribution, big or small.

Hugh went the extra mile, and with a smile. He was the heart of an event which brings thousands of us together every year.  We are proud to have called Hugh a friend and he will be greatly missed.

Hugh’s funeral will take place on Thursday 25th April, 11.00, St Urbans Church.

Ar dheist Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
